Mums shun chocolates and flowers for sparkling wine this Mother’s Day

Brand News | May 2019

Sparkling wine has emerged as the gift-of-choice for Mother’s Day this year. Shoppers still looking for the ideal present to give their mothers this Sunday should ditch the traditional chocolates and flowers and opt for a bottle of bubbles, according to a new poll.

Award-winning Australian wine brand, Tempus Two, surveyed more than 500 mothers with an overwhelming 90% saying a bottle of sparkling wine would be their ideal Mother’s Day gift.

Just 8% said they would like a bouquet of flowers and 2% opted for chocolates, as spending time with family was highlighted by 74% of Australian mums as their favourite way to spend the day. Fifty-two per cent of those polled would most like to enjoy Mother’s Day eating out with family, followed by 20% who would like a sleep in followed by breakfast in bed.

The research by Tempus Two, which is Australia’s fastest growing wine brand (IRI MAT figures to 10/03/19), also revealed 11% of mums would opt for a housework-free day with a further 17% hoping for a home-cooked meal on Sunday.

Tempus Two’s Winemaker, Andrew Duff, said: “Australian mums seem to be less impressed with the usual chocolates and flowers, opting instead for sparkling wine and ways to share Mother’s Day with their families.

“Enjoying a quality bottle of bubbles and a family meal either at home or in a restaurant have emerged as the key trends for mothers seeking more special ways to celebrate their day. We have just released our latest Tempus Two Copper Series Prosecco (RRP $35), which is what I’ll be spoiling my mum with this year.”

Tempus Two is available through liquor stores nationwide and online from www.tempustwo.com.au. Consumers can also visit the brand’s Hunter Valley cellar door, which is open 7 days a week.
